About Elizabeth Loraine:
I grew up in a small northern Minnesotan town married my high school sweetheart, had two beautiful children and as soon as we could we moved to a warmer climate. I have worked with my husband building and decorating custom homes for years.
After loving every kind of vampire book, movie and series since I was a child, I decided that I wanted to know more. I can write a book I thought, how hard could that be? Well...it was not as easy as I thought, but I stuck to it, and finished my first book Royal Blood Chronicles Book One in August 2009. I now have six books in the series and am about to release book two of my new series Phantom Lives.  My parents always told me that I could do anything that I wanted, work hard, and do it right. I believe that, and live that every day.

I started writing this new vampire series for teens and their moms because I wanted something different to read. I was tired of all the modern versions of vampire books, there had to be more to these long-lived beings. Where had they been, what had they seen? I wanted; no I NEEDED to know more, so Royal Blood Chronicles was born!  As in Royal Blood Chronicles, Phantom Lives features strong female characters and action and adventure mixed with romance, friendship and a historical backdrop. I hope you enjoy them.

Review :
Katrina is the exciting story of a vampire. It is extremely different from any vampire book I have read in a while. What I love most is that it is told from the point of view of a vampire and instead of vampires just living in the human world Elizabeth has constructed history and monarchy of vampires. I loved that this isn't set in modern day it added more to the story.

Katrina is definitely for fans of The Vampire Academy except it is told from a true vampire. Katrina is a fantastic main character. I loved how fast paced this story.

Interview with Steven Luna Author of Songs From The Phenomenal Nothing

with 1 comment
18302739Title Songs From The Phenomenal Nothing
Author Steven Luna
Genre YA Contemporary
Published September 3rd 2013 by Booktrope Editions

Book Descriptions:
It’s just me and him. Him and me. A man I can’t comprehend, designated by the universe as my father but someone I prefer to call Tom, and a kid he can’t relate to but calls son anyway because he’s determined to try. I really wish he’d just call me Tyler.

He probably wishes I’d call him Dad.

But I’m not comfortable with that at this point.

Our differences and our lack of mutual understanding are the only things we seem to agree on. And even those get heated sometimes.

Seriously, it’s a miracle that we haven’t hurt each other yet.

I’m not sure how much longer we can hold out.

***

Seventeen year-old guitar prodigy Tyler Mills has become lost in the aftermath of his mother’s death. Disconnected more and more from his father, he takes refuge from it all in two things: his music and his girlfriend. But everything changes with the chance discovery of his mother’s journal—and the long-held family secret within that could alter his life forever.

Goodreads

Interview:

1. What inspired your novel? While I was writing a fantasy novel for middle-grade readers, I had the idea for a comedy about a teenager who finds his mother’s journal and learns that she was friends with a well-known rock star back in the day. I put it aside for many years, and when I picked it up again it had kind of grown up in a way, became richer and more reality-based and turned into Songs from the Phenomenal Nothing.

2. If you had the choice between turning your novel into a movie or tv show
which would you choose? Wow –great question. For Songs, definitely a movie; very grainy, hand-held, very indie, to follow the tone of the book. For the Joe Vampire books, either would work; a TV show would allow a lot of fun exploration of the sarcastic “what is a vampire?” questioning that character does.

3. If your novel's movie rights were bought who would you cast as the main
characters? I’ve put together a dream cast for Joe Vampire, with Joseph Gordon-Levitt as Joe. For Songs, I’d have to go with (some young actor as Ty, some grungy old actor as Trevor, some dad-like actor for Tom)

4. Who is an auto buy author for you? (They release a book and you feel you must buy it) Aside from the authors I know personally, there’s a British author named Frances Hardinge whose writing and storytelling are spectacular in everything I’ve ever read by her. I don’t hesitate to buy whatever she publishes. I’m never disappointed by it, either. Fly-By-Night and Gullstruck Island are my favorites.

5. What ya book would you say is similar to your book? I think the tone in Songs is reminiscent of Perks of Being a Wallflower and Fault in our Stars. Both books deal with intelligent, sensitive teens as main characters trying to figure out the greater meaning in their lives while surrounded by less-so-happy circumstances. I think Ty in Songs comes from that same direction.

6. With a book that has the title Songs From The Phenomenal Nothing  then what are some songs that would be a great playlist for your book? There’s a character in the book, Trevor Graves, who’s a retired pop-folk singer I modeled after Cat Stevens. So the playlist that ran through my head when I wrote it was full of his songs. “Father and Son” kind of captures the essence of the story, so I’d call that the main theme song. And “Lady D’Arbanville” served as a springboard for one of the songs written by Trevor. “Cat’s in the Cradle” by Harry Chapin sort of taps into the father-son dynamic, too, so that would be on the playlist for sure. And I listened to other indie singer-songwriter folk musicians (James Bay, Tyler Stenson and Zack Buchanan are a few) to keep in the mode while I wrote it. I think a playlist that included tunes in that mode would be fantastic.

7. What are some of your favorite movies or tv shows past or present? I’m a huge fan of Lost and Alias…JJ Abrams is a mad genius for serialized storytelling. And American Horror Story was about the most fun I’ve ever had watching a TV show. Stranger than Fiction and Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind are at the top of my favorite movie lists for more current releases. I re-watch those two quite a bit. But my all-time favorites come from the early eighties: ET, Superman II, Raiders of the Lost Ark, Close Encounters, Weird Science. Looking at this list now, I realize how eclectic my tastes are…never really noticed that before. Huh!

8. What book made you a reader? My grandmother taught me to read with a book called “Let’s Be Enemies”, by the incredible Maurice Sendak. It was very simple, with amazing illustrations and a somewhat sophisticated telling of a basic story: two kids decide not to be friends anymore, but circle back around and friend up again by the end. I was probably four years old when she read it to me, but it had such an impact that I read it over and over again. It was all downhill from there.

9. Are there any fandoms that you belong to? Not at the moment, but things change from moment to moment in my world. It’s bound to happen sooner or later.

This or That:

Print or ebook: Print…stories come to life in paper form.
Tea or coffee: Coffee, in large quantities, with flavored creamer all up in it.
Writing or reading: I can’t have one without the other J
Contemporary or fantasy/scifi:  Contemporary (but it’s a close call).
Italian food or Chinese food: Italian…it’s in my blood.
Cake or cookies: Cake, made out of cookies.
Female narrator or male narrator: Either, so long as the voice is strong and clear.

Thanks so much for stopping by Steven!

But Alex and Emil aren t the only ones who want Evie, and her soul is about to become the rope in an eternal tug-of-war.

Angela Corbett

As a child, Angela Corbett’s most prized possession was a set of read-along books. She used to follow along with the narrator on the stereo and dream of when she would be able to read by herself. Her childhood reading habit led her to consider her future career. However, after consulting with her parents, she realized she had already exceeded hobbit height and since fairies and dragonslayers were tricky jobs to get, she decided she wanted to create worlds of her own. She started writing poetry in elementary school and worked as a journalist in high school and college, but could never leave her love for writing fiction behind.

She is a graduate of Westminster College where she double majored in communication and sociology. She has worked as a journalist, freelance writer, and director of communications and marketing. She loves classic cars, traveling, and escaping in a good book. She lives in Utah with her incredibly supportive husband and their five-pound Pomeranian, Pippin, whose following of fangirls could rival Justin Bieber’s.

Eternal Starling is her debut novel and the first book in the Emblem of Eternity trilogy.

Review:
I am a huge fan of the Lux series and pretty much anything Jennifer L. Armentrout writes. So obviously Shadows didn't disappoint. Shadows tells the story of Dawson and how he met and fell in love with Bethany.

The Lux series focuses a lot of the series on Dawson and Beth. Literally a whole book focuses on finding Beth but you never knew how strong Dawson's love was you only heard about it from other characters. This novella sheds great light on their relationship and it makes the main books of the Lux series even more impacting. What I didn't expect was there to be both Daemon, Bethany and Dawson's point of views in the story. This being Dawson's story it was strange to read Daemon's point of view. But strange that this was all before Katy and you now understand why Daemon was so harsh to her in Obsidian.

It is funny how different Bethany takes finding out the guy she likes is an alien compared to Katy. I actually prefer how the romance between Dawson and Katy. It is definitely that sweet and cute love story. It feels more like a teenage love story. Where as Katy and Daemon are all snark for an entire book denying their love as long as possible and it took Dawson and Beth to fall in love in less that 100 pages. It wasn't insta-love per say but just an easy connection.

You really see the difference between Dawson and Daemon as characters. Especially since they both fell in love with humans but the hows and whys were so completely different.

Learning Beth's backstory and how Will tied into the series was really great. Mainly this novella prequel added great insight into a series that I love dearly.

I have just started Origin and Shadows was a great refresher of the Luxens and Arums. It was great to be back in the Lux Universe with some of my favorite characters. I was missing Katy though!
Have you read the Lux series yet? Do you love it?

Excerpt:
Angelle stopped beside a folding table boasting boxes of fresh, crispy cracklins and selected a thick piece. Cane watched, mesmerized, as she puckered those gorgeous lips and blew on the sliver. With a flirtatious glint in her eyes, she held it up to his mouth, and he opened.
Holy crap.
He’d had cracklins before. Fried pork fat was a standard gas station treat, usually shrink-wrapped and stale as shit. But this, fresh from the pot and piping hot, was unbelievable. Cane widened his eyes, and it was possible he even moaned. It was thatgood. And as he swallowed, Angel rewarded him with a rich, throaty laugh.
“Ca c’est bon?” she asked, grinning when he grabbed another handful.
He touched her nose and popped a piece in his mouth. “Good would be an understatement.”
Grinning, she took a fried morsel for herself and sent the balding, overweight gentleman tending the table a wink. “Now that’s what we like to hear.” Then she closed her eyes as she savored the treat.
The sounds of Angel moaning, and watching her face soften in the throes of a foodgasm, had to be the sexiest damn thing Cane had ever seen. His pants tightened, embarrassingly so considering he knew the audience was still watching, but what pushed him over the edge was when her eyes opened. The pleasure in them was his undoing.
Feeling the weight of the crowd’s disapproving stares and not giving a damn, figuring now was as good a time as any to give the people the show they clearly wanted, he grasped her hip and tugged her forward, pausing only to inhale her gasp of surprise before brushing her mouth with his.
It was like setting off a damn forest fire.
Angelle, his shocking little hellcat, pounced. Forgetting all about their audience, or maybe not giving a damn either, she wound her arms around his neck, lifted onto her toes, and kissed him back with everything she had. Cane had intended to steal a quick taste, take the edge off his craving for her, and prove their point with the town’s people. But hell if he was gonna be the one to back down now. Tightening his grasp on her slim hips, he brushed his thumbs across the smooth, exposed skin near her waistband. He deepened the kiss, thrilling over her telltale shiver. Whimpering, she yanked on the hair at his nape and sucked his bottom lip into her mouth. Hot damn.
Okay, now he had to start backing down. With all her male relatives watching, not to mention the knives and axes still lying around from the butchering earlier, if Cane valued his life, he needed to wrangle control of the situation. He’d heard patience was a virtue. That was a line of bull—he’d always sucked at waiting for anything he wanted. But for Angel, he was willing to try.
Loosening his grip on her belt loops, Cane slowed the intensity of the kiss. He smoothed the hem of her shirt down, grazed her lips one last time, and, placing his forehead against hers, inhaled through his nose. Sunflowers mixed with cayenne may be his new favorite scent. Angelle released a heavy breath, a flush blooming on her cheeks. She darted a glance at the crowd, then looking into his eyes, grinned lazily. “My goodness. If anyone doubted we were a couple before, I guess that showed them.”

About the Author
I grew up in New Orleans, where I watched soap operas with my grandmother and stayed up late sneak reading my mama’s favorite romance novels. Now a Cajun cowgirl living in Houston, I still stay up way too late reading my favorite romances, only now, I can do so openly. I firmly believe life’s problems can be solved with a hot, powdered-sugar-coated beignet or a thick slice of king cake, and that screaming at strangers for cheap, plastic beads is acceptable behavior in certain situations.

When not typing furiously or flipping pages in an enthralling romance, I homeschool my two beautiful girls and watch reality television with my amazing husband.

I write YA, NA, and Adult Fun & Flirty Escapes. Taste The Heat is my adult romance debut, and I'm also the author of MY SUPER SWEET SIXTEENTH CENTURY and A TALE OF TWO CENTURIES, as well as a ton of other books to come. I love hearing from readers and dishing books!

with No comments

Behind the Faerying Mysts, hidden from Mortal eyes, is a land where gods and creatures of myth and legend dwell. And in the Mortal Realm, their Princess is hidden away.

Quinn Sinclair lives an ordinary life with her less-than-loving mother in Conifer, Colorado, clueless of her true nature. On the night of her birthday, a staggering betrayal sends her life spinning out-of-control. As she struggles to pick up the pieces, a vision of a man with haunting tourmaline-blue eyes begs her for help, and she is transported into a Magykal battle-forever changing her life.

Arik Morgaine-Demigod bad boy and outcast of the Magykal Realm-tried to avoid contact with Princess Quinn for eighteen years, not wanting to make good on an old threat. But the fates have other plans. Arik can no longer deny his growing desire for Quinn, or the need to protect her from those wanting to control her burgeoning powers. Can the two of them come together and save the Magykal Realm from being destroyed by the Darkest of Magyks?

New Adult. Recommended for 18 and above. Mature themes, sexual situations, and profanity.
